Counselor / Social Skills and Afterschool Coordinator
Shaylyn Young MS, LPCA, has four years of ABA experience since beginning her journey with Strong Foundations in early 2016. Shaylyn received her bachelor of arts from the University of Connecticut, where she majored in psychology and minored in women studies. Shaylyn then graduated from Assumption College, where she received her Master’s in Clinical Counseling Psychology with concentrations in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Family & Child Interventions. Through Strong Foundations, Shaylyn has experience working with autism spectrum disorders, those with physical or intellectual disabilities, and behavioral disorders. Shaylyn provides direct care at the center, in-home, and community settings.
Additionally, she is knowledgeable in the area of creating social skills lesson plans, as well as implementing them. She has had the opportunity to develop curriculum and has held the role of lead Classroom Instructor for the upper elementary-aged children here at Strong Foundations. She has counseling and assessment experience with those who have intellectual disabilities, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, social disorders, and Attention Deficit Disorder.
Shaylyn is currently working towards her BCBA certification through the Florida Institute of Technology in addition to completing her 3000 hours post-graduate work to become a licensed counselor within the state of Connecticut. Shaylyn is passionate about fostering progress, encouraging independence, and instilling hope in our children and families with Autism or any diagnosis.
Outside of her responsibilities at Strong, Shaylyn enjoys spending time with friends and family, going to the movie theater, playing tennis, and playing with her puppy.
